We participated in the "Bridge to Africa" session program

Comunicació

The "Bridge to Africa" session program organized by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) took place from May 20 to 25. Nutrición Sin Fronteras (NSF) had the opportunity to participate in this event with the presence of Dr. Gloria González Azpéitia, professor at the ULPGC, who often collaborates with our projects in Africa.

The speaker was able to present the work we are carrying out in Gambia, specifically with the initiative to reduce child malnutrition carried out by the Maternal-Child Recovery Centres (CREN) in the Base and Soma regions. Currently, there has been an increase in food insecurity in this region, so the work of the CREN is increasingly important, both from the point of view of prevention and care for children.

At this time, intensive work is being carried out between the ULPGC and NSF on the planning of a new epidemiological study in which, through screening in 5 communities with a high incidence of malnutrition, the nutritional indicators and determining factors (sociodemographic, perinatal history, breastfeeding and feeding patterns) that are associated with malnutrition can be identified. The objective is none other than to carry out impact actions in the coming years to reduce the risk factors detected.
