Planning the participation of nursing students in Gambia

Comunicació

Within the framework of the project “Global food insecurity. Malnutrition in Gambia after the impact of COVID and war”, sessions have been held to inform the nursing students of the ULPGC who will carry out their internships at the CREN of BASSE (Gambia) in upcoming courses.

In the image we can see the meeting that took place in June 2023 at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria  (ULPGC) with the student representatives: Ingrid Martínez and Robinah Kunihira , and the professors Dr. Gloria González Azpeitia , professor of pediatrics and José Ramal , director of Health at the ULPGC and Núria Camps , general director of Nutrition without Borders. In this way, the students could participate directly in Gambia in the dynamics of preventive community health and get involved, together with the local health personnel of Nutrition Without Borders, in nutritional screenings in the communities to detect children under 5 years of age who are severely malnourished and to be able to recommend their transfer to the CREN to proceed with their recovery.

We hope that this program will become a reality in 2024, and that students will be able to develop their final degree projects and apply them to practical cases.
