More than 70 people participate in Blanes in the paella with food from surplus food, organized jointly by Nutrition Without Borders, the Ateneu Popular Sa Fera Ferotge and young people from Espurna Camp.
The event began on Saturday 25th November, where thanks to the participation of different volunteers from the organisations a “espigolada” was held in the Blanes markets. For those who are not familiar with this concept, the “espigolada” consisted of going to the different market stalls to ask if they had food that they were going to throw away. Once all this food had been collected, we went to the premises of the Ateneu Popular Sa Fera Ferotge to make a selection of the food to know what use we were going to give to each one of them.
The next day, Sunday 26 November, was the big day, the day of the paella for the popular re-use meal. This was made using all the food that had been obtained the day before. To put it in context, we filled about 6 supermarket trolleys, food that if we hadn't collected it would have ended up in the rubbish. Thanks, once again, to the participants from the different organisations, we managed to make a delicious, healthy meal made with food from food surpluses. The people who attended the event were very happy with the initiative and the event helped us to spread our commitment to combat food waste to more people.
